Following our Annual General Meeting held on November 10, 2011, we are pleased to welcome the 2011-2012 Board of Directors for the Georgian Triangle Development Institute.

KRISTINE LOFT, President

Kristine Loft
Kristine Loft is the principal of LOFT Planning Inc., a land use planning and project management firm based in the South Georgian Bay area.

Kristine is a qualified professional planner who brings her municipal and private planning and project management experience to any project. Kristine has extensive experience in project management, policy preparation and facilitating public consultation. Kristine has experience in the preparation of Official Plans, Zoning By-laws and Background Studies. Kristine has extensive experience with testimony before the Ontario Municipal Board relating to both municipal and development appeals.

Kristine has extensive experience in project management, policy preparation and facilitation of public consultation as well as the preparation of Official Plans, Zoning By-laws and provision of planning services to local municipalities. Kristine also has significant experience in providing expert testimony before the Ontario Municipal Board on behalf of private clients as well as local and upper tier municipalities. 

With a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson Polytechnical University in Toronto, Kristine is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP). 

Kristine enjoys a busy home life with husband Blake, daughter Rylie and son Rhys. As a family, they enjoy skiing and après ski as members of the Toronto Ski Club. Kristine is also a member of the Board of Directors at the TSC. Kristine enjoys spending time with friends and discussing books with her book club. Kristine is currently in her fourth term as a GTDI Board Member and she also Chaired the 2007 and 2008 Annual GTDI Conferences. ALEX FLEMING, Vice-President

Alexander FlemingAlexander Fleming, MBA, P.Eng., PTOE is a professional engineer with Crozier & Associates, where he heads the traffic and transportation works of the firm.  Alex has been responsible for both planning and design of the transportation components of the company’s projects.  Alex combines an MBA received from the Rotman School of Management with his professional engineering designation to bring a critical thinking approach to his projects.  Additionally, as a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE), Alex is one of only 44 so designated in Ontario.  The worldwide PTOE designation is a powerful demonstration of requisite knowledge, skill and ability in the specialized application of traffic operations engineering.  The award of the designation is affiliated with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). 

Alex returned to Toronto from working in the United States in 2000 before settling in the Georgian Triangle Area in 2006.  With a family history in the area that dates to the founding of the Collingwood and Craigleith areas, Alex was keen to make the Georgian Triangle Area his permanent home.

Recently, Alex chaired the Affordable Housing Task Force for the Town of Collingwood, and continues to advocate for affordable housing in the Town.  Alex co-organzied the 2007 GTDI Annual Conference with Kristine Loft.  

ANDREW HILL, Secretary-Treasurer

Andrew HillAndrew Hill is a real estate development professional with over 25 years experience across Canada and in the US.  From 1999 until 2005, Andrew worked to establish the new Blue Mountain Village and resort residential developments, overseeing all Collingwood real projects initiated by Intrawest during that period.  

Andrew is now managing new hotel development as well as various hotel renovation and conversions projects across Canada for Starwood Hotels & Resorts.  Andrew’s position with Starwood requires a great deal of travel but, to balance this he also works from a home based office in The Blue Mountains.  As Andrew’s work doesn’t currently include any projects in the Georgian Triangle, his membership in GTDI and involvement as a director helps fill his desire to stay connected and contribute to the issues of GTDI and the future of the Georgian Triangle.

KRYSTIN RENNIE, Director

Krystin RennieKrystin Rennie is the owner of Georgian Planning Solutions, a planning consulting firm in the Georgian Triangle.  Her professional career has offered her a wide range of experience in the area including project management, resort planning, environmental program development, and private planning consulting.  She is also actively involved in the community in many aspects, both professional and personal working on various committees and volunteer groups.

Krystin is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP).  Krystin has her graduate degree from the University of Waterloo in Local Economic Development and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Krystin has lived in the Town of the Blue Mountains (Clarksburg) for over 14 years with husband Sean and two boys Matthew and Kade.  As a family they enjoy all that the Georgian Triangle has to offer, including mountain biking, hiking, swimming and of course skiing.

Krystin has been a GTDI member for 10 years and chaired the 2010 and 2004 Annual GTDI conferences.  

JAMES ORR, Director

James Orr
James Orr, P.Eng., is a Project Engineer with RJ Burnside & Associates Limited, based in their Collingwood office. His experience has been mainly focused in the area of private sector land development engineering, including commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

His work has included everything from large-format retail shopping centers, industrial site plans, road improvements, urban and rural residential subdivisions, business parks, and brownfield remediation / redevelopment projects.

James typically assists development clients with due diligence studies, preliminary and detailed design, permitting and environmental compliance, and project management from inception to completion.

He has worked extensively within the jurisdiction of local and regional municipalities and environmental conservation authorities within and surrounding southern Ontario, the Greater Toronto Area, Georgian Triangle, and in New Zealand under the Resource Management Act and various Territorial Authorities.

After growing up in Etobicoke and working in Toronto, then more recently living abroad in Christhcurch, NZ for almost three years, James and his wife Emily now reside in Collingwood, where they take full advantage of all the outdoor pursuits Collingwood has to offer, especially free-heel skiing, cycling, kiteboarding, and trail running with their dog Tui.

James thoroughly enjoys the experience of living and woriking in a smaller town and appreciates the feeling of being more connected and involved in public policy. This is James’ first term as a board member of GTDI.

Clayton Capes

CLAYTON CAPES, Director

Clayton Capes, MSc., P.Eng is a Senior Project Manager, Designated Consulting Engineer and Stormwater practice lead for exp. Services Inc. in Barrie and Wasaga Beach. Clayton specializes in private sector land development (residential and commercial), municipal infrastructure projects, environmental investigations and stormwater management.

Clayton obtained his education in Mining Engineer as well as a Master’s degree at the University of Toronto.  He has 11 years' experience in consulting engineering having worked for firms in the Town of the Blue Mountains for 8 years, Collingwood for 1 year and Barrie for the last 2 years.  Clayton grew up in Wasaga Beach and continues to live there with his wife and 3 children. 
Clayton attended GTDI meetings as an alternate member from 2005-2009, however only formally became a member in 2011.  This is Clayton's first term as a GTDI director.
